Whole 30 Day 11: Dream a Little Dream

I don’t like this part of the process. I managed to get through 10 days without sugar, but now I’m craving junk I don’t even like. I spent 5 minutes of my life thinking about these horrendous lemon cookies that we had in Kindergarten in Jackson, MS. I haven’t thought about those in YEARS. Today, if someone came to my lunch table with them, I would have wrestled it out of their hands like a rabid monkey. And I don’t even LIKE THEM. But thinking about them led me to thinking about the ice cold, frosty on the sides, green bottles of Coke, before the “New Coke” and the subsequent “Coke Classic” that we all enjoy today.

Well played, Whole 30. Well played.

I had stopped thinking about the coke machine in the teacher’s lounge. But now I’m dreaming of an old fashioned bottle dispenser with ice on the sides and the many summers I enjoyed playing outside until the mosquitoes attacked. Some theory behind this:

All joking aside, though, this phase gets really intense and for some people. This is the part of the program where our minds try to drive us back to the comfort of the foods we used to know. Our food relationships are deeply rooted and strongly reinforced throughout the course of our lives and breaking through them is really big deal.

This makes sense. Just when I think I’m going to breeze through the rest of my days, something weird happens and I wonder if I’m more crazy than I already admit. Winking smile

So how did the day go?

The morning started off great! I literally jumped out of bed and got ready and to CrossFit class. We had a heavy lifting day and I needed to see my morning crew. It felt GREAT to be back. I’m sure I’ll pass on going tomorrow, but I’ll be ready to go again on Monday.

Before class, I had my banana, almond butter, and coffee. That is what I have always used as my pre-workout shake, but now I only use those 3 things and yes, I do make a smoothie. I can’t force solid food down my throat at 4:30 in the morning. I drank half before and the rest after the WOD.

Lunch was the last of the chipotle chicken soup and some cucumbers.

Dinner was this spaghetti squash with meat sauce.
