The Clean 15

Last week, I talked about the Dirty Dozen, the 12 foods with the highest concentrations of pesticide residue. If you are trying to move to including more organic foods or looking for organic farmer stands at the local farmers’ markets, those 12 foods are a good place to look for organic. Also, some of those foods have edible peels and it is crucial that they be washed thoroughly prior to eating.

The good news is there is a longer list of “clean” foods or foods that have the least concentrations of pesticide residue, as listed by the Environmental Working Group. If you are not going full organic, then these are the “least contaminated” but that doesn’t mean squeaky clean and sterile. Wash before eating, unless you grew it yourself without pesticides or you know the farmer who grew it. Studies are coming out revealing we are sanitizing ourselves to sickness…but that’s a whole new discussion Winking smile.
