Days 23-24: The big bump in the road.

I love Whole 30. I’m drinking a ton of water. I’m working out again. I feel stronger even while sick. I’m eating a ton of food.

And today, Wednesday, I cheated, HUGE.

I have to say, I’m glad I did because I learned something.

Tuesday was great. I had leftover potatoes and brussels with some turkey for lunch. Dinner was huge salad with more turkey. I was craving some dense salad foods.

Wednesday, I had more chicken soup and some sauteed Kale for lunch.

Dinner was…..Taco Casa. I love TC. LOVE IT. Their “fast food” tacos put many others to shame. I went fully intending on eating 2 tacos and being done. But remember that hungry feeling I’ve noticed recently? I got 2 tacos and an order of beefy nachos.

The tacos were GREAT! The meat and veggies and crispy corn shell. Perfect.

The beefy nachos are just corn tortilla chips with a cheesy sauce with ground beef. I took one bite and told Stephen something was wrong with it. He tasted it and said it tasted like it always had. I tried again and it was absolutely disgusting. It tasted like plastic. I checked the cup to see if it had melted anywhere but it was fine. I could taste chemicals and something….plastic. It was the cheese sauce, which comes in a highly processed form from a can somewhere.

This little cheat meal really opened my eyes. Sure, I’m supposed to wait until AFTER the 30 days to add in some foods. 23 days has made such a huge difference in how food..and “frankenfood” tastes.

What about any reactions? Slightly swollen fingers a few hours later and a headache. I didn’t eat enough salt to make that difference.  It was either the corn or the plasti-cheese or a combo of both. I didn’t eat more than a spoonful of the cheese so maybe corn did it. I’m sure I’ll find out more as I finish the 30 days and start re-introducing foods. I still think I’m going to extend past 30 days. I just like how I feel right now.
